4 Best Tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range – Most Efficient Tire Options in 2024

We looked through all the data and tests to determine the best tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range models so that you can get the most efficient tires out there.

You probably bought your Model 3 Long Range to ensure you get the most miles per charge and want to find tires that will help you extend your battery life.

But, you are also wary about performance, comfort, and overall value. While the stock OEM tires that are fitted onto the Model 3 Long Range are engineered specifically for maximizing efficiency, they are usually not the best when it comes to handling, road noise, tread life, or cost.

We found several alternatives that offer nearly the same level of efficiency, but are vastly superior when it comes to dry and wet performance as well as durability. The best part is that most of our choices actually cost a lot less than the original factory tires as well.

Additionally, we separated our in-depth analysis with a section for all-season tires and for summer tires.

We also verified our evaluation with feedback from real-world owners on multiple Tesla subreddits and online forums like TeslaMotorsClub.com to confirm that our choices really do perform well as tires for daily drivers.

Best Tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range – All-Season Tires: Background

The stock all-season tires on most Long Ranges are the Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires.

It is true that the Primacy MXM4s were developed with Tesla in mind and offer low rolling resistance and are “electric vehicle tuned.” But, their performance is really quite subpar.

In fact, they were ranked just 29th out of 60 tires in Tire Rack’s survey of all “Grand Touring All-Season” tires on the market.

On top of that, they are expensive. Their current price is roughly 25-50% higher than all of the other (more capable) all-season tires on our list.

But, what about efficiency?

Tire Rack tested the Michelin Primacy MXM4s and found that their range averaged 305 miles on a full charge on 18 inch rims. Meanwhile, a “standard” non-EV optimized tire averaged about 271 miles, which is a 12% decrease.

If you are looking for the most efficient tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range for all-seasons, then the Michelin Primacy MXM4s are your answer.

But, that is not the whole story as we noted that their poor performance and extremely high price cannot be overlooked.

So, let’s do some calculations to show how their extra efficiency does not actually cover their extra cost.

Currently, the U.S. average price for electricity is $0.14 per kWh and the average Tesla Model 3 Long Range owner pays about $0.03 per mile of charge.

If you drive 12,000 miles a year, that comes out to about $360 of electricity to charge per year.

Let’s say a brand new set of tires will last 3 years (or 36,000 miles). That comes out to $360×3 = $1,080 for electricity over 3 years.

If you choose a new set of tires that are 10% less efficient, then you would expect to pay about $108 more over the 3 year span.

But, a set of four Michelin Primacy MXM4s cost about $200 to $400 more compared to most other tires on the market.

Therefore, you could actually save about $100 to $300 in total if you choose the less efficient tires, even when factoring in the slightly higher electricity costs.

Based on the Tire Rack test and corroboration by anecdotal feedback from owners, all of our all-season tire recommendations are about 5-12% less efficient than the stock Michelin Primacy MXM4s all-seasons.

But, we think their improved performance and better overall economics certainly make up for it.

Best Tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range – All-Season Tires: Top Picks

1. Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS

Fits on: 18 inches, 19 inches

These Continentals were ranked #1 out of 25 other “Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires” on Tire Rack’s latest customer survey on over 9.3 million miles of real-world usage.

Efficiency-wise, owners report that there is only about a 5% drop in efficiency, but with far-better grip and comfort.

That makes the ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS one of the most efficient and best all-around tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range owners.

They also come with a generous 6 Year / 50,000 Mile treadwear warranty.

2. Vredestein Quatrac Pro – Top Budget Pick

Fits on: 18 inches, 19 inches

This European brand is making a name for itself, delivering class-leading performance while being priced extremely competitively. In fact, these Vredestein tires are usually 60% cheaper than the stock Michelins.

But, don’t let its low cost fool you, as it still manages to match the performance of bigger brands. They earned 8th place out of 60 “Grand Touring All-Season Tires,” edging out big names like Goodyear, Pirelli, and Bridgestone.

They were also only one of three tires that scored above a 9.0 for their wet and dry handling, yet were also one of the highest rated tires when it comes to road noise and comfort as well.

One owner on TeslaMotorsClub.com reported a drop of only 3% in efficiency over 7,000 miles when they switched from the original factory tires to these, which make them one of the best tires for the Tesla Model 3 Long Range given their price, performance, and efficiency.

Their 8 year / 50,000 Mile treadwear warranty is the cherry on top of what we believe is the best value pick on this list.

3. Michelin CrossClimate2

Fits on: 18 inches, 19 inches

We also think that the Michelin CrossClimate2 tires are one of the best tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range models.

They were ranked 1st out of 60 “Grand Touring All-Season Tires” in Tire Rack’s customer survey.

Tire Rack even did an in-depth comparison test with the CrossClimate2 tires directly against the OEM Michelin Primacy MXM4s and found that the CrossClimate2 tires provide better wet and dry handling, along with a more engaging steering feel.

They did also find that the CrossClimate2 tires used about 11% more wattage, but that is a small price to pay compared to the roughly 20% extra cost that the Michelin Primacy MXM4s command.

Michelin also provides a 6 Year / 60,000 Mile treadwear warranty, which is 10,000 more miles than any other tire on this list.

Best Tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range – Summer Tires: Background

There is a different story when it comes to choosing the most efficient summer tires for the Tesla Model 3 Long Range. The original equipment that came standard on most Model 3 Long Ranges with summer tires were the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or Hankook Ventus S1 EVO3.

Based on our analysis, the clear winner are the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. They deliver class-leading performance, comfort, and efficiency at a fair price. Tesla helped Michelin develop these tires and they are T0 Tesla spec’d with “Noise Reduction Technology” and are “Electric Vehicle Tuned.”

As a result, owners have reported the best range on average with the Pilot Sport 4 tires compared to all other summer tires.

On the other hand, the Hankook Ventus S1 EVO3 tires have only recently been released, so there is limited data on their performance. They also do not come with a treadwear mileage warranty at all, so buyers should beware.

In short, there is no need to deviate from the OEM recommendation for summer tires for the Model 3 Long Range – the answer is the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

Best Tires for Tesla Model 3 Long Range – Summer Tires: Top Picks

Michelin Pilot Sport 4

Fits on: 18 inches, 19 inches, 20 inches

Tesla chose these tires to be their OEM summer rubber for a reason. Michelin’s summer tires are the industry standard when it comes to performance and these Pilot Sport 4 tires are no exception.

They were ranked 7th out of 36 other “Max Performance Summer Tires,” but were virtually tied for the lead for the best wet and dry performance as well as overall comfort.

Unless you are planning on racing your Model 3 on a track, the Pilot Sport 4 tires should be more than sufficient.

They are also the only performance summer tires that are optimized for electric vehicles, fitted with acoustic foam and XL load-rated, and come with a 6 Year / 20,000 Mile treadwear warranty.

In our opinion, there are no other summer tires that provide the balance of efficiency, performance, and price that the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires deliver.
